Supporting Sea Anglers

Meet Linda Billington

At TackleTek we are fortunate to be able to work with anglers of differing backgrounds and abilities and we are very fortunate to be working with an angler like Linda Billington. Why I here you ask, well Linda is not only an accomplished angler (though Linda doesn't believe this) but she is also an extremely nice person which makes the task of working with Linda all the more pleasant.

When we invited applications from everyday anglers for sponsorship we had no idea who would write in, if anyone. To our amazement we had hundreds of applications from keen anglers looking to develop their fishing and work with a company such as our to achieve this. We selected three male and three female anglers from a large list of many worthy applicants and Linda's stood out from the masses due to her incredible sense of humour which we are lucky enough to share with the angling community.

Anglers Paradise - Not Just A Clever Name!

We met up with Linda, and her family at an amazing venue which any angler will know -  Anglers Paradise. As luck would have it Linda had a holiday planned here and the venue is less than 50 miles away from our base. I asked the owner, Ziggy if it would be OK to meet with Linda and it is fair to say that Ziggy gave us a very warm welcome as well as some of his valuable time.

We were invited into the newly refitted Africa Bar which I have to say is an amazing sight and we were transformed from Devon to the Serengeti in an instant. Linda was presented with her tackle (see below) and then Ziggy presented us with the icing on the cake - a fishing session in Ziggy's private section of the specimen lake, an area where few mortal anglers have been allowed to fish!

Linda and Ziggy With An Anglers Paradise Kitty

Ziggy took us to a little piece of angling heaven, The Boat House. This is where Ziggy and his syndicate of anglers fish on the first Sunday of each month and where Ziggy has his fishing tackle and bait (and the odd bottle of single malt) ready to go. He produced three Richard Walker split cane rods, a tub of worms and an urn full of pellets, set the rods up on a ledger float system and we waited. The sunshine was out (it's always sunny in Devon!) the company was good and the catfish were hungry. What more could an angler want?

The float under the boat house wiggled and then disappeared and five minutes later Linda is fussing her catfish on the decking outside the boat house - purrrfect (I had to get that one in).

It was very nice to have use of some angling history with the Richard Walker split can rod though I must say a big thank you to Lineaeffe as the 14ft Regency rod is less than half the weight!

To cap it all Ziggy invited us to fish the Tench lake in the afternoon and we spent a very relaxing couple of hours chatting and catching some beautiful Orfe, so relaxed that in fact I forgot to take pictures!!

Sadly the time for me to leave was upon us, I think Linda didn't fancy a non-paying guest sleeping on her settee in her luxury villa so I said my farewell's and met up with Ziggy for a small glass (I was driving) of his legendary and excellent home made wine.

My thanks to Linda's family for the encroachment on their holiday and my special thanks to Ziggy and all at Anglers Paradise for making this a very special day for us at TackleTek and I am sure for Linda as well.

If like me you have seen the images of Anglers Paradise on the TV and thought "looks great and what a clever name" I assure you that there is nothing clever about the name - it really is an Anglers Paradise and Ziggy personally ensures that your stay is as memorable as the fishing.
