Sharnbrook Barbel and Tingrith Carp
Hubby Chris and I had a few days off and
decided to join Vauxhall Angling Club to try and catch a barbel. I'd caught a
few before from still waters but really wanted one from the river.
The Vauxhall ticket allows you to fish the River Ouse Sharnbrook stretch which
is an absolute treasure. I managed to catch a few decent chub and perch before
becoming attached to a beautiful 13lb Barbel. Sharnbrook is a hard venue and I
was very lucky but in all honesty had I blanked, it would have been on of the
most beautiful places I have ever fished which was rich in wildlife,
dragonflies, butterflies and kingfishers.
Later in the week we decided to do an overnight session at our local fishery
Tingrith fishing the Orchid specimen lake. The catch unfortunately didn't
include one fish that I had managed to land whilst hubby had gone off to the
nearby take-away for our evening meal as I had a bit of a problem weighing
it.....
I had it in the landing net and was in the process of slipping it out of the
landing net onto the weighing sling and the damned thing flapped like mad
slapping me several times round the face with its tail, knocking off my glasses
in the process. It slipped off the mat and I tried desperately to rugby tackle
it into submission but it continued to flap and slid down the grassy embankment
followed by yours truly head first only to be showered with lake water as the
fish slapped the water with its tail like mad in its rush to escape! I was
soaked through!!
Chris and I managing to land 304lb of carp over 2 nights with my largest fish of
the session weighing in at just over 20lb.
A great few days fishing.
