Martin's Lineaeffe
Tackle Review
While everybody was watching the
World cup or opening their Fathers Day cards, I decided to pay a visit to a
local commercial fishery called Woods Farm and try out my new Lineaeffe Regency
14ft Match rod and Dante reel .
|
The weather was overcast, but
warm. I decided to fish under match conditions i.e. for 5 hours to the fishery
rules though which meant no pellets, no ground bait or keepnets but apart from
that I set everything under match conditions. The first couple of hours was
hard, catching small roach up to about 4oz, which did not challenge my new rod
very much, then into the third hour I struck in to another fish thinking it was
going to be another small roach. Although I’d stepped up my terminal tackle to a
Garbolino carp waggler 4lb main line, 3lb hook length to a number 14 hook with a
double maggot bait, the fish turned out to be a 1lb crucian carp and at least
bent the tip of my rod. Next cast my float dipped again, I struck and the tip of
my rod bent right round, at last I was into a larger fish which gave me a hell
of a fight when landed was a Mirror Carp approx 5lb in weight. After that it was
back to small fry, until 5 minutes before the end of the session when again the
tip of the rod went round again, this time I was into a 7lb common carp which
put up a hell of a fight after 20 minutes I landed it. I know this was past the
end of the “match” but because I had a fish hooked under match rules you can
fish on until the fish is landed or lost.
Overall I have more expensive match rods
than the Regency but they cannot handle the all round fishing conditions
like the Regency did. Also some of the reel fittings on the expensive
rods are pathetic for a rod costing around £100, but on the Regency they
were excellent. The Dante reel sat perfectly and never moved even under
extreme pressure it was smooth, it was easy to cast and when the large fish were hooked
it was quite smooth to use. All in all I know what rod and reel combination I
will be using in the future! |
